Analytical ultracentrifugation in colloid and polymer science: new possibilities and perspectives after 100 years

Abstract Analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC) is a classical polymer and colloid analysis technique invented by Theodor Svedberg 100 years ago. Modern hard- software powerful computers make it now possible to develop the methodology beyond what was with this before. This perspective aims describe new possibilities, which extend possibilities of AUC repertoire determination distributions sedimentation coefficient, particle size, molar mass as well stoichiometries interaction constants interacting systems. High-resolution simultaneous characterization size optical property distributions, investigation nucleation reaction in cell, interactions at very high concentration, complex fluids or osmotic pressures over large concentration ranges even crossing phase boundaries are among discussed topics. They show that after successful application, still has much yet unexplored potential science. Graphical paper spans from days invention analytical including nonmainstream instrumentation, huge for future. includes multiwavelength detectors, high-resolution chemical reactions ultracentrifuge, high-concentration work, pressure fluids.
